Missouri & Kansas Rivers @ Kaw Point

Kansas City, KS

s River flows into the Missouri River, also known as a confluence. The floodplain surrounding this site is made up mostly of industrial buildings, with trees and grasses lining the stream bank.  It is a good spot for viewing both the city skyline and the natural features of the area.  Turner Middle School teacher and founder of BRWA, Jim Benz, often brings his science classes to this spot for a hands-on experience with our watershed.  Aside from the central urban location of this site, a few signs of direct human use may be noticed, such as dirt walking paths within the Lewis & Clark Historic Site, small amounts of litter along the bank and possibly ashes from a recent campfire.

After there are several entries for a site, observing and predicting changes is a great learning activitiy. Observing, documenting and predicting environmental change is a cornerstone of environmental protection.
