Before registering for KC Clean Streams:

  1. Your group should select a water or school site at which you want to pick up trash. If you are unsure of a site near your school, please contact Kate Delehunt (kdelehunt@brwa.net) for site suggestions.
  1. Decide if your students are going to purchase the KC Clean Streams 2007 t-shirts. T-shirts will come in various sizes (child’s-adult XL) and will cost $2.00 each. Count the number of each t-shirt size you’ll need and post those numbers on the registration site.
  1. Gloves, trash bags, t-shirts, and teacher packets can be picked up at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Discovery Center (4750 Troost, KC, Mo) from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 10, 2007.
  1. BRWA highly recommends that each teacher recruit a parent or community member to assist with the planning of your group’s participation in the KC Clean Streams event. If you send us the contact information of your volunteer, a BRWA staff member will get in touch with that person directly to discuss their role in this event.

KC Clean Streams Tip:

Picking up trash around your school, or especially at a water site, can be a challenge when students are involved. To make KC Clean Streams a safe, worthwhile learning event, proper supervision is crucial. Water quality in the KC metro area has steadily declined over recent years while the amount and variety of trash has increased. BRWA highly recommends that each group collecting trash should have a minimum of one adult for every 5 students. Together, we can all do our part to encourage students to become engaged in improving water quality in the Kansas City metropolitan area!
