Each year the Blue River Watershed Association sponsors the largest school based stream clean-up event, KC Clean in the KC metro area called KC Clean Streams. In 2008, over 3,700 students representing more than 50 schools picked up almost a ton of trash in creeks, streams, and school yards.

BRWA also teaches a hands-on, multidisciplinary water quality curriculum in schools called T.R.U.E. Blue (Teaching Rivers in an Urban Environment). This curriculum focuses on water quality issues and challenges facing the KC metro area by training students and adult mentors how to monitor water quality.

In the spring of 2008, BRWA partnered with Cargill to support both KC Clean Streams and T.R.U.E. Blue. Cargill’s generous donation helped supply free t-shirts to students participating in KC Clean Streams and to implement T.R.U.E. Blue in 5 Missouri classes and 5 Kansas classes in the 2008-2009 school year.

The picture below shows members of the Cargill Cares Council presenting checks to BRWA’s board president and Education Director. BRWA greatly appreciates the monetary donations and the mentoring time Cargill has given to support our programs.

Cargill and the BRWA become partners with Kansas and Missouri Students
With the Education and Guidance of the BRWA and the support of Cargill, students complete another day working to make both Missouri and Kansas a better place to live. These students have taken a huge step in becoming stewards of their environment.
