KC Clean Streams
2008 Clean Streans
Water quality in the Blue River Watershed is quickly becoming a serious issue. Because we all live upstream and downstream from each other, our actions in the watershed have a direct impact on the quality of life to all who live in the Kansas City Metropolitan area.
The Blue River Watershed Association's annual KC Clean Streams event is one way to get students and other community members involved in improving water quality. With a growing population and increasing areas of impervious surfaces, the amount of trash found in Kansas City water ways is exploding. KC Clean Streams is the only metropolitan-wide student clean up event with a focus on removing this trash from the rivers and streams that braid our communities. In its history, over 10,000 students have participated in this clean up effort.
KC Clean Stream participants are provided trash bags and gloves prior to the clean up day. Free teacher packets contain resources and websites that provide extensive background information on water quality and water quality issues, lessons and activities, and student project ideas.
