Cargill is Blue River Watershed Association's largest corporate donor to date. Not only does Cargill donate thousands of dollars to support our programs, many of Cargill's employees volunteer as adult mentors for our programs. Cargill supports many of our programs and is most visibly noticeable on our KC Clean Streams t-shirts. In 2011, Cargill presented BRWA with a check for $5,500 to Executive Director Leslie Alford at a litter clean up at Shawnee Mission South. The money from Cargill allows BRWA to give t-shirts to many of the students who
participate in KC Clean Streams. In 2011, nearly 6000 students
representing more than 60 schools picked up litter in creeks, streams and school yards. This is the largest school based stream clean-up event in the Greater Kansas City area. This event covers the entire metro area. BRWA provides gloves, trash bags, educational materials and t-shirts (to those who register early) to teachers who register on our website for the program.
Cargill also helps support our T.R.U.E. (Teaching Rivers in Urban
Environments) Blue curriculum. This four day curriculum teaches a hands-on multidisciplinary water quality curriculum in schools and focuses on water quality issues and challenges facing the KC metro area. Cargill's Conservation Fund helps BRWA provide this program free of charge to the schools and provide buses for the water testing date when needed.
